Behaviour Plan(2)

As stated in  a previous post our school adopted a school wide behaviour plan last June. Upon returning to school in September, one of the first things we did as a staff was revisit the plan, as we have several new staff members and many new students at school this year. We were satisfied with this, so we distributed the plan to students and their families. A copy was sent home with each student. Parents and students were asked to read  the plan. Parents signed the plan and returned it to school. Response has been positive.

As a side to this;  a student  committed an act that we had listed in our plan which would warrant a suspension. During the first week back that student was given a one day suspension; Having this  in our plan helped everyone involved.

Behaviour Plan

Our district has instruction free Wednesday afternoons and recently our staff took a Wednesday afternoon to have an interesting discussion on behaviour.  We’ve had a behaviour policy, but not everybody was on the same page. So, for almost 2 hours we sat around brainstorming about acceptable behaviours and consequences for unacceptable behaviours. When finished we had created an overall policy, a policy for suspensions and a  behaviour contract. Everyone was in agreement. It was one of the most productive  sessions we’ve had in a long time.

Year End

Another year is coming to an end and where did the time go. It seems like it was September only yesterday and there was so much to do; old SEPs need to be reviewed and rewritten, new ones created, schedules created, time tables  made, new students and staff to get to know, and paper work and more paper work. Well, the year’s nearly over and all of the aforementioned has been done. We survived it all.
